Dear Sharon Art Studio Family,
It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our wonderful facility assistant and dear friend, Shawn Porter. Shawn passed away in his sleep on Saturday, July 15th. This is a major loss for our community, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Shawn’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Shawn joined the Sharon Art Studio team in November 2022, and served as a welcoming face at the front desk. Shawn’s compassionate nature and commitment to providing exceptional service touched the lives of everyone he encountered. He was always willing to lend a helping hand -- walking students safely to their cars, troubleshooting audio/visual needs, setting up for classes and events, and face painting for Halloween.
Shawn’s impact on the communities of San Francisco extends beyond Sharon Art Studio. Shawn loved music and was a beloved figure in the Bay Area electronic music scene. He shared his passion for music as the Digital Sound Arts Instructor at Harvey Milk Center for the Arts and was excited to start teaching a new synthesizer class this fall. He also worked at several of the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department sites as a facility assistant and was a help throughout the community hubs.
His kindness and generosity will be missed.
Shawn was such a kind, welcoming and easy going presence. I always appreciated his helpfulness, walking me to the car or assisting me carry the occasional heavy load. I often enjoyed hearing about his music. He will be missed and my condolences go out to his family and friends.
Shawn was a pleasure to work with, so friendly and relaxed. I always enjoyed chatting with him when I arrived at the studio. He will be missed. -Jeannie
