Common Questions & Answers about the FOSAS Board of Directors
What does the FOSAS Board do?
The board leads the nonprofit Friends of Sharon Art Studio. Board members help set direction and raise funds that support programs, equipment, and materials, so the studio can remain a high-quality, accessible place to learn and create.

How is FOSAS different from the City?
Sharon Art Studio is operated by San Francisco Recreation & Parks. FOSAS is the nonprofit partner that focuses on fundraising and long-term sustainability.
Who’s a good fit for the board?
People with prior board or senior leadership experience who care about accessible arts education, enjoy working collaboratively, and are comfortable helping build community support for the studio.
What’s the time commitment?
About 5–10 hours per month, including monthly meetings, committee work, and seasonal fundraising or events.
Is fundraising part of the role?
Yes. Board members help share the studio’s story, make connections, and invite others to support the work financially, and they make a personally meaningful annual gift.
Not ready for the board?
That’s okay. Many people start by volunteering at events or supporting specific projects before considering board service.
