Ceramics Workshop: Matcha Tea Bowls

A matcha tea ceremony is a Japanese cultural event involving the preparation, serving, and drinking of matcha tea. The tea bowl is one of a few items in a tea room that is made of clay. This workshop will focus on how to handbuild a traditional ceramic tea bowl. The first week we will begin shaping the bowls, focusing on the design and intention of your work while learning about the matcha tea ceremony. The second week we will refine the shape and surface of the bowls and complete the forms. The third week will focus on glazing. All tools provided. This workshop is for all skill levels.
