Ceramics Workshop: Bakers and Loaf Pans

Come create bakers or loaf pans! Bakers and loaf pans teach students how to throw pots without a bottom with the intent of creating walls that are not round; think square, rectangular, oblong, or even 3 or 5 sided or lobed. Students would then throw bottoms separately for these forms. Students will learn how to attach their thrown walls to their bottoms and add lug handles and/or feet to these altered and assembled pots. The first two meetings will be for students creating their forms, and the third meeting will focus on glazing. This workshop is great for students looking to make forms out of round and possibly on a larger scale than they have worked at previously. Please note: This workshop is geared specifically for students with intermediate or advanced throwing skills. Students should be comfortable wedging and throwing 3-5 pounds of clay.
