The Junior Picasso classes are 5 week classes exploring drawing, painting and mixed media for ages 5-10. Each session is different, so sign up for more than one!

IMPROVING YOUR DRAWING SKILLS
Instructor: Ellen Soloway
Ages: 11-15

 


Improve your art skills by exploring various art media such as pencil, charcoal, ink and paint. Drawing techniques for shading, perspective, contour drawing, design and portraits will be taught. Projects and techniques will vary. Beginner, intermediate and advanced students welcomed.

ALTERED BOOK WORKSHOP
Instructor: Jen Lorang
Ages: 9-12 & 13-18

Books are a great medium for young artists who love collage, illustration, comics, writing, and other
mixed media. In this fun, explorative workshop, students will learn basic book altering techniques
such as creating pop-ups, secret windows and niches to hold treasures, folding techniques to create pockets and envelopes, as well as basic stamping, painting and collage techniques to create their very own personal artists book.

CARTOONING WORKSHOP
Instructor: Carla Goldstein
Ages: 5-10 & 11-15

 


Learn to create dynamic cartoon characters, backgrounds, and storylines. Students will learn how to draw characters that have expression and movement. Our materials will include pencils, markers and a sketchbook. You will produce several cartoon scenes and the start of a comic book.

DEVELOP YOUR ART PORTFOLIO
Instructor: Carla Goldstein
Ages: 11-15

Do you want to go to art school, but need to improve your skills? This class will provide you with the foundations of life-drawing, portraiture, perspective, the figure, and developing your particular strengths in a concentration. A portfolio consist of about 15-20 pieces of solid work that displays understanding of anatomy, shading, gesture, still life, and portraits. The emphasis is realistic
drawing. All levels of skill are welcome. The instructor has been a teacher and portfolio reviewer at SOTA (School of the Arts).

BECOMING A 'ZINESTER
Instructor: Megan Workman
Ages: 11-15

 


An engaging and comprehensive course which will empower the young artist to participate in the
poignant world of the self-published magazine. The course includes exposure to the history of the 'zine
movement and discussions around the relevance of art-zines in community building as well as practicing various construction techniques and the creative process as it relates to solo and collaborative 'zine creation, and the synthesis of multi media. Artists will walk away from the course with a minimum of four completed 'zines.
