BASIC JEWELRY/METAL ARTS
Instructor: Olivia Competente

 

Develop or renew your basic skills in contemporary jewelrymaking. A discussion of materials and projects will take place at the first class meeting. Students will be responsible for purchasing materials for personal projects (which can be costly). New students will complete a flat project (pendant, broach, earrings) and continuing and advanced students may move on to 3-D items
such as rings and cuffs.

NOTE Youth 15-17 may enroll with permission of instructor. Students new to the craft or studio must attend 1st class; speak to instructor before registering if necessary.

ENAMELING: The Basics

Learn the basics of enameling as we survey the rudiments of this classic craft. All materials for a series of introductory projects are provided. Thereafter students are responsible for purchasing supplies. No metal arts experience is necessary. Beginners are welcome!

ADVANCED ENAMELING
Instructor: Olivia Competente

Learn the advanced techniques of Basse Tai-Enameling transparent over a silver texture and Champleve-enameling in defined spaces on acid etched metal. Returning students may work on more advanced projects. Students must know basic enameling techniques.

LEATHER BASICS &
MIXED MEDIA
Instructor: Delia Munoz
Level: Beginning/Experienced

 

The central focus of this class will be to create and design leather jewelry and other assorted objects. Students will learn to cut, rivet, stitch, dye, paint, emboss and decorate leather, using tools and assorted leather punches provided. Students are welcome to bring and use PMC and fused glass from other classes to incorporate in decorative design. You will go home with a
one-of-a-kind piece/s. No previous instruction needed, great for beginners as well as advanced students.

FUSED GLASS JEWELRY:
FUN & SPARKLE

Love pretty, shiny jewelry? Learn the fun of fusing glass to make your own one-of-a-kind jewelry. Class will cover fusing irid glass, dichroic glass, silver leaf in your work, and glass etching. Materials fee covers most glass and supplies for class. Students must have basic glass cutting skills.

INTRODUCTION TO CASTING
Instructor: Feliz Arietta
Level: Beginning

 

Learn the organic metal art of lost wax casting. This is a 5-week course that will cover wax to cast, allowing you to see the limitless forms that metal can take. The class starts by showing you how to work with wax (hot and cold) to create pieces of jewelry that will be cast. You will enjoy mixing your own investment and working with instructor to pour your metal into your mold. Try a
different way to get your pieces made! Materials list given on first class.

CREATIVE BEADWORK

Learn simple techniques for stringing, wiring and knotting, as well as easy to master techniques for more complex projects. Class will cover: intro to Beading Basics, Jewelry Strung from Beads, and Wired Bead Jewelry.

INTERMEDIATE ARTISTIC
BEADED TECHNIQUES

Level: Intermediate & Advanced

 

Take creativity to even greater heights with beads by making original, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces anyone can learn how to create! Learn advanced techniques for stringing, wiring, weaving, and the more complex but easy to master projects. Class will expand on topics such as intro to wire basics, beading, jewelry strung from beads, wired bead jewelry and earrings. This course is designed for advanced students, and previous knowledge of basic beadwork is needed.
