In this on day workshop you will work on removing the fear of making mistakes when drawing. Various methods and exercises will be introduced to strengthen your confidence as well as design skills. This is not a figure drawing course - although what you will learn in this workshop will help in figure drawing. The focus will be drawing the shapes and gestures in the clothed figure. Felting is the hottest new fiber art! It’s amazing how easily a sturdy fabric comes from loose wool by compressing and shrinking it. (Sometimes felt happens by accident in your washing machine!) Learn the basics of feltmaking while creating a free form multi-colored pouch or purse, and a wild wooly scarf. Add details to your artwear with needlefelting, another easy felting technique. INTRODUCTION TO PMC

Love metal working and want to try a new medium? This class will cover all the basics in PMC (precious metal clay). PMC is a medium that can be molded and manipulated like traditional clay, but when fired becomes a lovely piece of fine silver jewelry. This class will take you from flat forms, to setting a gemstone, to finishing your piece. You will go home with wonderful one of a kind jewelry. No previous instruction needed great for beginners as well advanced students needed guidance.

ORIGAMI BOXES

In this workshop you will learn to make boxes that are unique. How many times have you looked for a box to hold a gift? Well, look no more you will be able to fashion your own one of a kind box. You will be taught three styles of boxes, a box in a shape of a flower from one piece of paper. A triangle shape box and a square box will also be taught. Written instructions and diagrams will also be provided. Knowledge of basic folding will be helpful, but not necessary. We will have fun and we will create masterpieces made from paper. BEGINNING CHAIN MAKING

With modern technology chains can be cranked out at a rate of thousands per hour, loosing quality, and personality and uniqueness. This class will teach you the classical skills needed to create our own personalized woven and Etruscan chains. Students are encouraged to learn how to manipulate wire through the selected use of hand tools and apply the following jewelry techniques: making jump rings, splicing wires together and fusing fine silver jump rings shut, polishing and patina and creating simple clasps. No jewelry and / or classical Metalsmithing skills required- beginners and advanced students welcome! $50.00, which includes 20g, copper wire and 22g and 20g fine silver wire to make chain samples and all tools necessary to work on your projects will be provided. In this 2 day workshop, we will work with a wonderful low fire red clay and a variety of colored slips. Our exploration will include building many forms and decorating in various ways with the colored slips. After bisque firing our work will be clear glazed and fired in the electric kiln. ECORCHE CLASS

If you need a little help sculpting the head and associated features, come join us for this exciting class taught by one of the region’s experts. Gloria Nusse has gained national recognition as one of the premier instructors in forensic reconstruction. You’ve seen her on “America’s Most Wanted” and “48 Hours”, now learn the techniques that she uses to not only create museum exhibits, but to bring all of the John and Jane Does back to life.
Learn the muscles and tissues of the face by building them up one by one. You will learn their origins, insertions and actions and why the facial muscles are so important for accurate, realistic and believable movement and expression. We will begin with a slide show of a facial dissection and learn the bones of the skull. Then with oil based clay we will place the muscles of the face upon plastic skulls. This class makes anatomy easy to understand and follow.
There is a materials fee for the plastic skull, eyes and clay. One foot square boards to work on fitted with a pipe flange will be provided for use (and available for purchase). Students should bring clay sculpting tools (various metal, wood and dental tools). Additional tools available for students to purchase if needed. Bring a sack lunch.. REGISTRATION DEADLINE 1/28/10
