OH! WHAT A RELIEF
instructor Gaul Culley

This 2-day workshop will introduce you to the exciting world of relief printing. What is a relief print, you say? Do you remember when you carved an image into a potato and used it as a stamp when you were young? That is a relief print! Instead of using a potato, you will learn how to carve and print a linoleum block. The theme of the workshop is "Memory." Bring imagery that reflects this theme.

The first class you will receive materials and begin making a drawing/collage. We will go over all the tools needed to create your linoleum block and how to use them. Then we will transfer the drawn image on the linoleum surface, and if time is left over we will begin carving our blocks. You will be able to take home your blocks to carve at home for those of you who have detailed drawings. The second class we finish all the carving and then start printing!
