ENHANCING CREATIVITY BY DRAWING WHAT YOU SEE
instructor: Carlo Grunfeld
level: beginning and continuing artists
This course will be appropriate for beginners while also providing enough rigor to benefit those who have recently taken basic drawing. During each class we'll warm-up with exercises that awaken the right side of the brain. Through these and the construction of drawings, we should see more clearly things as we optically perceive them. We'll use pencil, charcoal, and ink to
look closely at and draw from, among other things, still-life, life, and landscape outside the Sharon Building. We'll also study some drawing techniques that aid in construction, such as the elliptical system. A nominal fee will be collected from each student to hire a model for the last session. For a materials list, visit www.sharonartstudio.org or call (415) 753-7004.

COMPOSTION IN WATERCOLOR
PAINTING WITH LIGHT & SHADOW
Instructor: Vesta Kirby
Level: Beginning & Continuing Watercolorists
|

|
|
The power of your painting may be in how you arrange the elements. Working with the focal point in both symmetrical and asymmetrical balance we will learn to place the weight of form in surrounding space. We will also learn to use the classical and renaissance formula, the "Golden Section" as well, the "rule of thirds" in composing our paintings. We will consider how to successfully draw in the viewer and how the viewer's eye moves around the painting. We will work with distributing values in thumb nail sketches before painting. And, we will apply the greatest three dimensional device of Light and Shadow to create form. Please bring materials to first class - download a material list at www.sharonartstudio.org, or call (415) 753-7004.
