SUMMER 09 CERAMICS WORKSHOPS WITH ANNIE CHRIETZBERG

Ceramics Workshops: June 13 & 14

Visiting Guest Ceramics Workshop Instructor: Annie Chrietzberg

Annie Chrietzberg is a ceramist living in Denver, CO. She is a regular contributor to Pottery Making Illustrated, and has given presentations as far away as London. She makes things that make her smile, and encourages her students to make things that delight them.

EWER, ME & A CUP OF TEA
instructor Annie Chrietzberg

The class will start with the making of a cup the slow and beautiful way. Forget the speedy wheel, that's like drive-thru. The point is to spend some time and let our energy really infuse every cup we make. This project will introduce the use of templates, as well as how to modify them.
The second part of this workshop will be making an animated pouring vessel. The ewer has lots of room within its parameters for sculptural considerations. Using only the most basic of wheel skills, Annie will show the class how she draws a simple outline from a thrown ring, and talk about how she uses texture to 'dress' her critters. This project is easily modifiable for the purely hand-building student. As time allows, other projects will be covered. Bring a sack lunch.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 5/7/09.

THE SHAPE OF SUMMER BUTTER
instructor Annie Chrietzberg

Don't you love the shape of summer butter, shot through with corn-silk? The butter dish is one of Annie's favorite forms, the fancier the better for holding its own on a crowded picnic table. This project will cover the creation and use of templates, double-sided slabs, puffed rims, throwing, altering, cutting and assembling some parts, and the joining of textured slabs to thrown elements. Only the most basic of throwing skills are required, but the project is also easily modifiable for the purely hand-building student. Student's can either use Annie's templates or design a shape of their own. As time allows, other projects will be covered. Bring a sack lunch.

In this two-day workshop the focus is on creating pulps: making a mould and deckle for Western style papermaking, discover inclusions—putting “stuff” in your paper, drying techniques.
