BEADWORKING WORKSHOP WITH HUIB PETERSEN:
AUTUMN'S GLORY

Learn to make a spectacular necklace with bead artist Huib Petersen. In this workshop, “Autumn’s Glory” will be taught. Open to beginning and intermediate students. The leaves are stitched in flat peyote stitch with picots in- and decreases on the edges. Right angle weave is used for the stems and the leaves are connected with spider webs shapes forming the necklace. Little acorns (not pictured) hang from the closure and complete this beautiful necklace. Materials provided in kit fee. (Supplies in Kit: Seed beads Size 11: 3 colors in green and brown, size 15: 2 colors: gold and brown, 8 semi precious stones; 6mm, pin back, ear hooks, closure and chain, needles and thread, instructions.) Bring a sack lunch.

INTRO TO RIVETS

The art of cold connection(connecting pieces together without the use of a torch or solder). In this one day class learn the ins and outs of joining metal to leather, fabric, metal or paper. Go home with a one of a kind piece. Beginners welcome!

REPORTAGE DRAWING SERIES

Reportage drawing is a way to report on-site through images. In these classes you will learn to become confident with line drawing. We will build your speed and endurance to draw for a longer time, capturing as much detail as possible. This is a form of drawing that will help illustrators, animators, caricature and portrait artists, people in fine art, as well as still life and figure drawing artists. Good also for those who are looking to begin to explore drawing! Materials list given upon registration. Bring a sack lunch.

WORKSHOP #1 BUILDING CONFIDENCE
In this class you will work on removing the fear of making mistakes. Various methods and exercises will be introduced to strengthen your confidence as well as design skills. We will be going to various locations in San Francisco (near the studio) and drawing on site.

WORKSHOP #2 DRAWING PEOPLE
In this workshop you will be introduced to methods that will help you become more comfortable with drawing people in motion while at the same time add striking design elements. This is not a figure drawing class - the focus will be on drawing the shapes and gestures in a figure. We will be going to various locations in San Francisco (near the studio) and drawing on site.

WORKSHOP #3 DESIGNING THE PICTURE: DRAWING FROM LIFE
This class will introduce various methods of designing your page when drawing pictures from life. You will be learning different ways of planning and graphically laying out your final drawings. We will be going to various locations in San Francisco (near the studio) and drawing on site.

STRUCTURE & BASIC ANATOMY DRAWING

This 2 day drawing workshop focuses on basic essentials of proportion and structure as related to drawing and painting the human figure. Emphasis is placed on understanding basic forms and structures of the human figure in a simplified way. Understanding essential anatomy allows the student to better comprehend the subject, resulting in better drawing. Handouts will illustrate and underscore various principles. In this half day workshop, we will have fun creating a variety of texture tools for use in the studio. You will have the use of a wide array of materials to create your own personal texture tools. We will use such items as floor tiles, foam, string, polymer clay, and much more. Often in the studio time seems too precious to focus on tool making. In this concentrated time you will be able to create many tools to use over and over. Come along and join the texture fun!

INTRODUCTION TO PMC & KEUM BOO (GOLD)

Mixing old the old and new! Learn to properly build a
piece of PMC silver clay for this project. Then learn the
ancient Korean technique of keum boo- how to affix gold
foil to a silver surface (stronger than plating and more
brilliant) adding another dimension to your art. This two
day class covers everything from beginning to finish and
all in between.

PMC & FUSED GLASS
instructor: Olivia Competente

 

No prior PMC experience is needed! Students can wear their creations home! NOTE this is not a glass fusing class

Enjoy two days of setting and embellishing fused glass or ceramic pieces in fine silver clay. PMC is a medium that starts out like a clay that can be molded and manipulated like traditional clay, but once fired, is a real piece of fine silver jewelry. Students must have finished fused glass or ceramic pieces ready for embellishing. Instructor will have pieces for sale at class if needed. Class is great for beginners as well as old pros!
